Ava	(voice over) The Case of the Robot Robbery
Ezra	On School Dress Up days, Patrick--
Maudie	Speaking of Dress Up days, what does a duck wear to a weeding?
Ezra gets at silence.
Maudie	A duxedo. Because it's a duck and a tuxedo mixed together.
Ezra	We're reporting a case.
Maudie	I'm helping by adding some jokes.
Ezra	Okay. Patrick O'Leary is not famous for being great at Dress Up days. On 'Happy Health Day', everyone went to a lot of trouble to dress up as fruits and vegetables, but Patrick just wore a big brown bag and came as a potato. Then on 'Celebrate your History Day', he wore the same paper bag, and said that he was celebrating the history of Ireland by being a potato So on 'Science and Tachnology Day', i expected to see Patrick is his usual outfit as some kind of Potato.
The story moves to Middle Primary School, with Ezra tying the card, and Patrick running through the plants and running to Ezra.
Ezra	Patrick! Why aren't you a pot--? Oh, i get it! Its Science and Technology Day, you're a genetically modified potato!
Maudie	Speaking of potatoes, why did the potato wedges cross the road? To get to the other sides. Because potato are called sides on a menu and it's like a chicken joke.
Ezra	Okay! Patrick wasn't a genetically modified potato.
Ezra picks up a plate.
Ezra	Patrick wasn't any kind of potato.
Patrick	I'm a robot.
Ezra	This was officially the worst costume ever. Patrick was wearing a black stretchy suit and he did not look like a robot. He looked like the lady on my Mum's pilates app.
Ezra	I'm kind of struggling to see the robot part right now.
Patrick	Me too. Because my costume was stolen.
Ezra	Someone took your paper bag?
Patrick	It wasn't a paper bag! It was an actual, proper robot costume that i spent weeks making.
Ezra	Patrick always has the best entries in the science fair, so, i could believe that he made a robot.
Maudie	Speaking of robots--
Ezra	No. Patrick's costume sounded amazing.
Patrick	It has tube arms made out of a clothes dryer duct with spray painted silver boxes and cake tins as panels and i had a row of silver batteries i'd stuck on with magnets that operated flashing lights that i borrowed from my sister. She's going to kill me for losing her lights.
Ezra	Wait, so you were wearing it? Then how did someone steal it?
Patrick	I had to take it off.
Ezra	Why?
Patrick	I needed to go to the toilet.
Ezra	Couldn't leave some of the costume on?
Patrick looks to his unitard.
Patrick	Wearing a unitard was a really bad idea.
Ezra	Patrick had left his robot costume outside the boy's toilets when someone took it.
Maudie	And he wanted us to find out who.
Ezra looks to Maudie.
Maudie	If i'm not allowed to do jokes am i at allowed to tell some of the story?
Ezra	Of Course. Go on.
Maudie	We called an emergency Inbestigators lunchtime meeting, so we could ask Patrick things about his missing robot, like was its favourite music, heavy metal?
Ezra	[giggles] Hey! That was a joke!
Maudie	Thank you. Kyle did not want to have an emergency meeting.
Back to the story, Maudie, Ava and Kyle runs to Ezra and Patrick to begin the emergency meeting.
Kyle	I'm in the middle of the soccer!
Ezra	Someone has stolen Patrick's robot costume. I promised him that we'd find it before the parade after lunch.
Ava	How do you know it was stolen?
Patrick	I saw them.
Maudie	You know who it was?
Kyle	Seriously guys, we're nine nil and--
Patrick	It was a mad professor.
Everyone looks shocked to Kyle.
Ezra	Kyle had come as a mad professor.
Kyle	Wait, what?
Maudie	If you were in the boys' toilets, how did you see the mad professor take your robot costume?
Patrick	I was washing my hands at the sink, and i heard a noise which made me look up and through the window i saw a mad professor and he had my costume under his arm.
Patrick	Hey!
Patrick	I called out to stop him, but he ran away.
Ava	Did you chase after him?
Patrick	I hadn't finished washing my hands.
Ezra	Patrick is very hygienic. He's won the Tidy Student award three terms in a row.
Patrick	Also, i didn't think it would be hard to track down the mad professor.
Maudie and Ava looks to Kyle.
Kyle	Don't look at me. Look at them.
It shows several boys customized as mad professors playing on the slide.
Kyle	And them.
It shows more children customized as mad professors.
Ezra	There was a movie on at the cinema called The Bad Mad Professor, and every second kid in the school came dressed as the bad mad professor, which, as i told Kyle, is technically dressing as a movie character, not as someone from the science and technology.
Kyle	The mad professor is technically someone from science, Ezra! Anyway, why are you mad at me, look at Ava. She dressed as a gold rush lady!
Ava	Excuse me, Kyle! i'm Marie Curie!
Kyle looks blank.
Ava	She discovered radioactivity and then she became radioactive, and that's why she died because everything about her was radioactive, even this necklace.
Kyle	Pretty sure you're not allowed to wear a radioactive necklace, Ava.
Maudie	Guys, stop arguing. We need to help Patrick find out which mad professor stole his robot. Okay Patrick, can you tell us everything you remember about what you saw throungh that window?
Patrick	Um... he had a bald cap--
Maudie	Are you sure it was a boy?
Kyle	Seriously Maudie? The mad professor is obviusly a boy, had you even seen the movie?
Maudie	Have you even seen that half the mad professores here are girls?
Kyle	I don't think so.
Pixie	Ava, will you be my partner in the parade?
Kyle	Why does that boy sounds like Pixie?
Ezra	Maudie was right. The mad professor could have been a boy or a girl, and there were about a million of them to choose from. We needed Patrick to remember something else.
Maudie	You said that you heard a noise from the bathroom that made you look up. Did the mad professor drop something?
Patrick	Maybe...
In a flashback, Patrick hears a noise while washing his hands and sees the mad professor picking up something from his robot costume.
Patrick	Oh! I think they were the batteries and magnets from my costume. I'd taken them before off with my sister's lights before i went to the toilet, because she would yell at me if i broke them.
Ezra	But you're not certain?
Patrick	It's hard to be sure but i think they were batteries.
Maudie	Patrick had something in common with the batteries.
Ezra	What?
Maudie	He was only half positive. Because batteries are--
Ezra	I get it.The spilled batteries and magnets didn't really helped us. We needed something else from Patrick. And Kyle was determined to get it.
Kyle	Think, Patrick, think! There must be something you haven't told us! We only have a few minutes left.
Patrick	Before the parade?
Kyle	For me to play soccer?
Patrick	I've told you everything that i can remember! He looked like you all did, the wig, the white coat, the black pants, the red sneakers.
Kyle	Red sneakers?
Kyle looks down to his black sneakers.
Maudie	Patrick remembering red sneakers was very important, because the bad mad professor in the movie wears red shoes.
Ezra	But hardly anyone at school has sneakers that are red, so, we had really narrowe things down.
Maudie	You told us that when you arrived at school, you saw a bad mad professor at the playground?
Patrick	Yes.
Maudie	Ws he or she wearing red sneakers?
In a flashback, Patrick arrives at school in his robot costume and passes by the mad professor who wears red sneakers.
Patrick	Yes! That mad professor definitely was!
Kyle	There are two people that i know with red sneakers. Duncan Kent in Grade Six and Mario in our class.
Ava	Yes! It must be absolutely be one of these two people with red sneakers. And it couldn't be anyone else because she wouldn't steal anything ever.
Maudie	Who wouldn't?
Ava	Pixie, i am so sorry but we need to ask you some questions.
Ezra	Pixie is Ava's best friend so Ava felt bad that she was a suspect.
Maudie	Which is why Kyle stepped in.
Kyle	You're too close, Ava. I'll handle this. Pixie, where were you early this morning?
Pixie	At home.
Kyle	After that.
Pixie	In the car of my dad.
Kyle	After that.
Pixie	At the bakery because we stopped to get a cheesy scroll.
Kyle	After that.
Maudie	What Kyle means is did you see Patrick in his costume this morning?
Pixie	Yes.
Maudie	Did you see him take it off?
Pixie	Ew, no, why would i?
Maudie	Not his unitard. His other costume.
Pixie	What other costume? I thought he came as the lady from my mum's Pilates app.
Maudie	Pixie had no idea what we were taling about.
Ezra	Which is not unusual.
Maudie	But it meant she had not taken Patrick's robot costume.
Ezra	We needed to talk to the other two owners of the red sneakers.
Maudie	What did the left sneaker say to the right sneaker?
Ezra	I don't want to be in this joke?
Maudie	You're my sole mate. S-O-L-E.
Ezra sighs.
Ezra	We called Mario over.
Kyle	Guys, can i please ask the questions again?
The others think about this looking into each other.
Kyle	I've got this, guys, i promise.
Maudie	Fine, but keep it short this time.
Kyle turns to Mario.
Kyle	Mario, Patrick took his robot costume off outside the toilet and you stole it. Correct?
Mario	No.
Kyle	Okay. Thanks for your time.
Maudie	Not that short.
Ezra	Ava went and found the last pair of red sneakers, which belonged to Duncan in Patrick's class. And this time Maudie did the questions.
Kyle	Duncan, let's start at beginning.
Ezra	No.
Duncan	What do you guys want?
Maudie	Did you see Patrick arrive at achool this morning?
Duncan	No.
Maudie	So, didn't you see him dressed as anything else?
Duncan	No.
Maudie	Because Patrick thinks someone stole his costume.
Duncan	Well it wasn't me!
Maudie	Really?
Duncan	Yes really! Why would i want with a robot costume?
Maudie	How do you know it was a robot costume if you didn't see Patrick in it?
Ezra	And that, Kyle, is how do you do an interrogation! Gotcha!
Maudie	Almost.
Duncan	Everyone knows it was a robot costume. He told the whole class he was making it.
